South African selectors continue to provide opportunities to the uncapped players in their T20I squad as they named Hollywoodbets Dolphin all-rounder Robbie Frylinck in the 2-match series against Bangladesh scheduled to be played next week.
The big name to miss out on the series is their ace leg-spinner Imran Tahir and who has been rested. Kagiso Rabada who has been playing non-stop cricket for an extended period of time has also been rested for the series.
Cricket South Africa (CSA), in turn, opted to test their depth while giving opportunities to Tabraiz Shamsi and Aaron Phangiso in spit department. Meanwhile, Wayne Parnell was not considered after suffering an injury.
“The selection of Robbie provides another opportunity to explore our depth in the important all-rounder position. Apart from his bowling strengths, he has a proven record as a finisher with the bat,” claimed CSA National Selection Panel Convener Linda Zondi according to cricket.co.za.
“Imran remains our first-choice spinner in both the limited overs formats but we also need to develop depth in this important area which is why we have given further opportunities to Shamsi and Phangiso,” added Zondi while explaining the logic behind leaving out Tahir. The side will be captained by Faf du Plessis who resumes captaincy after missing the series in England which they lost by 2-1.
