Rohit Sharma continued his great streak with yet another exceptional innings on Friday in the second T20 International against Sri Lanka in Indore, scoring a century off just 35 balls. It is the joint-fastest T20I hundred along with South African David Miller. However, as the social media exploded with congratulatory tweets and posts, legendary Sunil Gavaskar’s son Rohan Gavaskar had a bit of a different opinion about it.

On the micro blogging site, the former Indian cricketer wrote, “What an innings by Rohit !! Just phenomenal !!Unbelievable hitting. 208 and now this ..but still not the most famous Sharma this month !! [sic]”. It is very evident that in his tweet, Rohan clearly hinted at the other person with the same surname who has recently been in the news, but for completely different reasons – Anushka Sharma. Her December wedding with Indian captain Virat Kohli in Italy grabbed eyeballs as well as social media headlines all over the world.

Rohit’s achievements this month

It came off as undermining Rohit’s stellar performance, given that earlier this month in Mohali, he had scored his third ODI double century off 153 balls and then followed it up with the blistering hundred on Friday, along with sealing the series in all three formats as the stand-in captain. The achievements surely make him the deserving candidate.

Owais Shah’s response

English cricketer Owais Shah had a tongue-in-cheek reply to Rohan Gavaskar’s tweet. The former first-class batsman wrote, “Of course he is….. she is a kohli now!!! [sic]”.  It is not hard to guess that Shah meant to say that the Bollywood actress is out of the equation, since she is married to a Kohli now. However, to this the original tweeter said that he thinks Anushka would probably stick to her last name as it is.
