Rohit Sharma recommended for Arjuna Award: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recommended India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma for the prestigious Arjuna Award for the year 2015. Rohit has had an excellent last year for India in international cricket. Since the start of 2014, Rohit has averaged 55.05 from 21 innings with 3 centuries and 5 fifties, with the epic 264 his highest score. This decision was taken during the the BCCI working committee meeting in Kolkata.
Rohit is the only batsman to score two double hundreds in ODIs and also has the record for scoring the highest score by a batsman in ODIs- 264, when he scored against Sri Lanka in Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The BCCI has also formed a three member committee which includes former Indian captains Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar as its advisors in choosing a coach for the Indian cricket team.
Things that are discussed in the BCCI working committee meeting:
- The hunt for the national team’s coach will be undertaken by the president Jagmohan Dalmiya and secretary Anurag Thakur.
- Rohit Sharma’s name was also forwarded for the 2015 Arjuna award.
- BCCI will also seek legal opinion on the demerger and transfer of shares of CSK for further action.
- The BCCI paid homage to the departed young cricketers from Bengal, Mr. Ankit Keshri, Mr. Gaurav Kumar of Jharkhand and the unfortunate victims of the Nepal earthquake.
- A cricket advisory committee will be formed which will constitute of prominent cricketers who will share their recommendations on the overall conduct and development of the game.
