Parthiv Patel has been doing the rounds in Indian cricket for quite a while now. He made his Test debut as a teenager back in August 2002 against England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham but hasn’t quite been able to cement his position in the national team. The Gujarat-born cricketer has played 25 Tests in which he has scored 934 runs at an average of 31.13 with six half-centuries to his credit.

Back in November 2016, he made his comeback to the Test team after a gap of nearly eight years. He played a couple of matches against the Three Lions and didn’t quite disappoint with the bat in hand. However, he again went off the selector’s radar thereafter. Earlier this year in January, he made a comeback to the team in India’s three-match Test series against South Africa.

RP Singh delighted by Parthiv’s selection

The inclusion was mostly attributed by his marvelous performance in the 2016-17 edition of the Ranji Trophy. He played eight matches in Gujarat’s victorious campaign and racked up 763 runs at an average of 58.69. In the tour of the Rainbow Nation, he got a couple of matches in Centurion and Johannesburg respectively, but couldn’t adjust to the conditions.

In the meantime, the 33-year-old has been selected in India’s Test squad for the tour of Australia. The Test series starts on December 6 at Adelaide Oval. The inclusion has made former Indian left-arm seamer RP Singh happy. He reckons that Parthiv’s experience can come in handy in the Australian conditions where there will be decent pace and carry.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “Happy to see @parthiv9 featuring in the 18 man squad for the Australia Test series. His experience with the bat and the gloves shall really count in those conditions. #INDvAUS,”
