In what turned out to be a mind-boggling knock from the Delhi Daredevils‘ young sensation, Rishabh Pant reckons his involvement in few run-outs during the game inspired him to take that extra responsibility for his team. In one of Delhi’s do or die encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the visitors saw themselves on the receiving end before the experienced duo of local boy Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson, helped them chase their highest T20 total in the history of the league.
Delhi Daredevils were well on course to inflict an upset against the table toppers SRH as they posted 187 runs on the board courtesy some clean and swashbuckling hitting from Pant, who empowered his way to a staggering 128 off just 63 deliveries. However, an off day at the office for the bowlers rules out every minute possibility for them to make it through to the playoffs.
Run-outs didn’t distract the youngster
On a wicket that assisted spinners, Delhi found themselves in a spot of bother with a couple of communication breakdowns between the batsmen. Pant, who stole the show later was a common thread that connected both the run-outs that unfolded in the first innings for Delhi. However, the southpaw didn’t let it hinder his focus as he carried his side out of trouble with some batting assault in the death overs,
Specifying his thought on the same, he said, “Happens, it was miscommunication. I just misjudged the run. Part and parcel of the game. After a couple of run outs, I just wanted to take extra responsibility for the team.
One of the best of the lot
It was a great height of achievement for Pant as he registered his first T20 century, The icing on the cake was the quality of attack that he took on to go hammer and tongs in the last few overs. though it turned out as the highest individual score in a losing cause in the league, none can take away from the youngster for just his unbelievable hitting.
“I was just trying to see the ball and hit it cleanly. Took my time early on and things worked out well.” (Whether it’s his best knock) Not sure right now, but it’s certainly among my best ones,” said the centurion.
