Essex skipper Ryan ten Doeschate, now a renowned T20 specialist has been getting better with age not just with the bat but also on the field. While most cricketers past 35 years of age have a question mark regarding their fitness, a natural phenomenon while ageing, Doeschate could not stop himself from taking a stunning catch on the field. He displayed an amazing effort on the field at the boundary and took Sussex batsman Luke Wright’s catch like he could do it with eyes closed, showing off his agility.
Wright was wreaking havoc as Sussex were looking to post a big score after getting off to a flier in the powerplay overs while Ravi Bopara was bowling his second over of the spell when Wright decided to take him on. Only three singles had come from the first four balls and in order to release the pressure, Wright decided to hit an aerial shot and almost succeeded, only for the chanceless innings to end at the hands of Doeschate.
As Wright struck the ball right over the head of Bopara, the former Dutch skipper came running from straighter long off position. He was running along the boundary and got two hands to catch the ball. Soon he realised that he might get past the boundary and it will be counted as a six. In almost a reflex action, he threw the ball back in the air and completed the catch by coming back inside the boundary.
What was spectacular about the catch was the way Doeschate took it. It appeared swift even in real time, leaving the spectators shocked. Wright’s innings came to an end after 37 runs from 23 balls including 2 fours and 3 sixes.

His wicket was followed up by a run out on the very next ball bringing Essex back into the game. However, Essex could not do much to restrain Sussex to a modest total. The latter put on 172 for 4 on the scoreboard which turned out to be above par for Essex as they bundled out for 117 with 35 balls to spare.
