India skipper Virat Kohli is going through a tough phase at the moment in his career. Though he hasn’t lost form exactly, the man hasn’t hit a century either in any format since November 2019. Moreover, his numbers in Tests are not great over the last couple of years. The opposition bowlers have exploited his weakness outside the off-stump time and again and Kohli has fallen into the trap just like that.
The same happened in both innings of the ongoing Boxing Day Test in Centurion. Virat Kohli flirted at an extremely wide delivery off Lungi Ngidi in the first innings only to edge it to the slip fielder. He had looked so good for his 35 until then and had hardly played any false shot.
The Indian skipper got his opportunity yet again in the second innings and needless to say that he once looked in fine touch. He came in to bat at 54/3 and with the team having a lead of 130 runs, batted without much fuss till lunch. But the first ball after the break, he once again looked to play the cover drive off a harmless delivery from debutant Marco Jansen.
Kohli edged the ball to the wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock to give an opening to South Africa. Yet again, he had thrown away a start and even he couldn’t believe he had committed the same mistake.
Virat Kohli shakes his head looking at replays
Virat Kohli is such a big wicket, no wonder the commentators discussed his weakness multiple times after he got out. Multiple replays were shown of both his dismissals in the match and the man himself was watching them from the dressing room. The 33-year-old was seen clearly expressing his disappointment with his latest dismissal as he shook his head in disbelief.

Certainly, Kohli is hitting the ball well especially in the last few innings but he might have to show some more patience to get that ever eluding 71st international century. With two more Test matches to go, the Indian skipper will hope to turn the tables around soon.
