Sachin: A Billion Dreams gets super start on opening day

The much-awaited biopic of the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar finally released amidst all the hype that was built around it. The movie seemed to have lived up to the expectations as it covered the 24 years of Sachin’s career in a couple of hours. There were a few critics who believed that the movie did not provide the kind of insight that it had the potential of putting forth.

Well, all of that remains to be on the critics front. When it comes to the fans’ front, the movie certainly was a big hit. Sachin: A Billion Dreams garnered a net box office collection of INR 9 crore on the opening day. The super start sees the movie land in the top 10 opening of the year 2017. Certainly, the makers of the movie would be proud on the achievement.

Among the movies released this year, the best opening was received by Shah Rukh Khan starrer blockbuster titled ‘Raees’. Raees, released in January 2017, had a box office collection of INR 20.43 crore on the opening day. The movie finished with INR 139 crore as the net profit overall. Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB was also a smash hit this year and had managed to earn INR 13.2 crore on its opening day.

Highest grossers of 2017 on Opening day

Recently released movie based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel, Half Girlfriend, had a stunning start too as they managed to earn INR 10.27 crore on their opening day to be 5th in the list of highest opening day grosser in 2017. Sachin: A Billion Dreams is placed 6th in the list behind the chronological order from the top – Raees, Jolly LLB 2, Badrinath ki Dulhaniya, Kaabil, and Half Girlfriend.

The biopic of Sachin overtook the likes of Rangoon, Commando 2, Naam Shabana, Ghazi Attack and OK Jaanu among the highest grossers top 10 list. It will be interesting to see how much more this movie manages to fetch in the days to come.
