Young Prithvi Shaw was back in action in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai against Tamil Nadu after leading the U19 Indian side to their 4th title. Ever since the victory in New Zealand. Shaw has gotten a massive attention from the media ever since he has returned to the country. He has been selected for the Indian Premier League as well where the right-hander is set to play for Delhi Daredevils in the 11th edition of the tournament.
However, Shaw remains aware that having led the side to the title, media attention is going to be there. “I know there will be cameras and media as I have won the World Cup, which is obvious, but it’s all good,” Shaw said after Mumbai won a hard-fought game against Tamil Nadu. He said that having played for Mumbai for 2 years, everyone knows him and treats him their own people.
Shaw hopeful to get into senior team soon
The 18-year-old has already played for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy and is hopeful of playing for the national side soon. He said that he will get opportunities and If he continues to score runs, he can get into the team. “I have to keep scoring runs. There will be opportunities and I need to grab them to be on the senior team, I hope it comes soon,” he added.
I haven’t even started: Shaw
Sachin Tendulkar had started playing for India during the teenage and Shaw finds people often compare the two. Shaw though doesn’t like being compared to batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. According to him, people will expect a 100 after he reaches a half-century but there shouldn’t be any comparison with Tendulkar. “People from the stands would expect me to score a 100 when I score a half-century. I know expectations will be there, but there cannot be any comparison with Sachin sir. He is the God of cricket who played for 24 years, I haven’t yet started. It is a long journey for me ahead,” Shaw said.
Shaw mentioned that he enjoyed captaincy a lot as he has earlier led his school side and other junior teams. He said that Indian coach Dravid shared few tips which helped him during the World Cup. He also revealed that with a number of experienced players in the team, his job was a lot easier.
Dravid prepared us mentally
Talking about Indian coach, Mumbai-born Shaw said that he never spoke much about technique but toughened the side with encouraging words. According to Shaw, Dravid prepared the side mentally through positive words ahead of the games as well as training sessions.
