Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has etched his name with the golden colors in the cricketing history. The legendary former cricketer ruled the world of cricket for over a couple of decades. He often credited his success to his childhood coach, Ramakant Achrekar. Recently, Tendulkar praised his master yet again at an event.

Sachin was present for a book release function of Thursday where he released a book on child health-care for parents, “Even When There Is A Doctor”, authored by Dr Yashwant Amdekar, Dr Rajesh Chouhan and Krishnan Sivaramakrishnan. At the event, Sachin Tendulkar spoke at length about the role of parents and the teachers in anybody’s life.

He reflected back in the timeline to praise Achrekar for his contributions. He remarked that his coach was very strict, but loving at the same time. Sachin revealed that his coach never praised him. But whenever he used to be happy, he used to take Sachin out to eat Bhel Puri of Paani-Puri.  Sachin also spoke about the calmness that his father induced on him.

“Coaches, gurus are like our parents, because we end up spending so much time with them, we learn so many things from them. (Achrekar) Sir was strict at times, extremely strict and also caring and loving. Sir did not say well-played to me ever, (but) I knew (when) Sir has taken me to have bhelpuri or paani-puri, Sir is happy, I have done something nice on the field,” Sachin Tendulkar quoted as per the quotes in NDTV.

“I was a naughty child, difficult to manage….I was extremely lucky to have a balanced family, my father who was always extremely calm, who never got angry, agitated, and so did my mother…they gave me freedom, pampered me, but never spoiled me. When the situation demanded to be firm they were firm,” recalled the former Indian cricketer.

With freedom comes responsibility

Speaking further on the same point, Sachin Tendulkar noted that with freedom comes responsibility. To elucidate his point, he recalled the time when he had to go on a tour for a cricket camp as a 13-year old kid. His mother was very worried. He overheard the conversation of his parents where his father told his mother that Sachin is very responsible. Hearing these words, he got a sense of responsibility induced in him.

“I must have been 13 or so when I had to go to Indore to attend a national camp for a month and those were the days when mobiles were not available. I was going for a month and my mother was worried, and my father was telling her that he is the sharpest and cleverest among all of us, he knows, he is mature guy, I felt brilliant…with that freedom somewhere (in) my subconscious mind it registered that with freedom comes responsibility and I should not misuse my freedom,” Sachin recollected.

Crediting Anjali for her sacrifices

Commenting on his parenthood, Sachin credited everything to his wife Anjali. Anjali gave up her career as a doctor to ensure that Sara Tendulkar and Arjun Tendulkar received the right upbringing and care. Sachin credited Anjali for sacrificing so much.

“I wouldn’t want to take any credit, the person behind me (Anjali) — I would like to give her all the credit and more so because we both were doing well in our careers and when you know that you have a promising future and that is when an individual decides to take a back seat (in career),” he conceded.
