Sachin Tendulkar congratulates MS Dhoni after he reaches 10,000 ODI runs

Dhoni became one of the few cricketers to cross 10,000 ODI runs.

Although the Indians ended up on the losing side against England in the 2nd ODI at Lord’s, all was certainly not gloomy as former Indian skipper MS Dhoni completed 10,000 ODI runs with an average in excess of 50. While there are very few who have crossed the 10,000 run mark in ODIs, Dhoni is one of the fewer who has crossed the mark with an average of 51. And, at 37, the seeming twilight of his career, Dhoni would certainly be one of those cricketers who has achieved it all.

Thus, it was certainly no surprise when former cricketer and legend Sachin Tendulkar came out and wished Dhoni upon reaching the milestone. Sachin took to Twitter to express his praise and wrote, “Fantastic achievement!! @msdhoni, congratulations on scoring 10,000 runs in ODIs! Well done, my friend.”

While Sourav Ganguly takes the credit of being one of the most successful skippers of the Indian team, Dhoni has been crowned as an imaginative captain – one who leads from the front. Under his reign of captaincy for about eight years, Indian cricket triumphed, securing the number one spot in the ICC rankings on several occasions.

Under him, the Indians won the World Cup in 2011, something that followed the 28-year hiatus since Kapil’s Devils secured it in 1983. He also cemented the country’s place high aloft in World cricket when they would go on to win the Champion’s Trophy in 2013, an achievement that made him one of the first few captains to have both the trophies to his name at the same time.

At 37, he remains to be a crucial part of the Indian cricket team and a proper advisor to incumbent captain Virat Kohli in the ODI and T20I formats.
