Sachin Tendulkar congratulates Scotland following their victory over England

Scotland secured an impressive and historic triumph against Eoin Morgan’s England. In spite of the margin being rather slender, it was clear that the outright vicotry is something that has ensured that the ICC will begin taking them a little seriously, to say the least. However, one man who was very impressed with the win was former Indian cricketer and living legend Sachin Tendulkar. The latter took to Twitter to announce his happiness as well.

Tendulkar also explored possibilities of expanding the global game across the world with several countries expected to take the lead from the emerging nations such as Ireland and Afghanistan. The Scots have had a well-documented plea with the ICC requesting for more cricket. The victory may well ensure that they are now taken seriously.

The victory is a hugely significant one as it is also their first every win over England. Calum Macleod led from the front with some spectacular batting performances. It just so happened that on the day all the deliveries ensured that they found thier way to the fence. He was also well supported at the other end by his batting partners on a wicket that was highly conducive to batting.

Needless to say, the England bolwers led by Liam Plunkett and Mark Wood were taken to the cleaners. In fact, all of them went for over six to seven runs per over, something that is not worthy of a top team, especially England who are ranked number one in the rankings.

Tendulkar’s tweet read: ‘Cricket has all the ingredients to become a global game. Teams with massive potential like, Afghanistan, Ireland, Scotland along with many others have to be given more opportunities to play against the more experienced teams. Best way to provide great exposure.’
