Former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar congratulated the Argentina football team for winning the Copa America 2021. This was a special message from the great cricketer for the football star, Lionel Messi, who won his first major international trophy after having a long and illustrious career, where he found a lot of success at the club level with Barcelona.

Tendulkar firstly congratulated the Argentina football team for winning the trophy. This was the first time their team won a Copa America since 1993. As a matter of fact, the country, which has a rich history in football, has not won a single major international event since winning the two World Cups in 1978 and 1986.

Sachin Tendulkar has a heartful message for Neymar and Brazil

In a social media post, Tendulkar wrote in the caption, “Heartiest congratulations to @afaseleccion on winning the #copaamerica2021.🏆 It is a historic win for all the Argentinians and is an icing on the cake for @leomessi who has had such a stellar career. Continue inspiring”

Interestingly, the number of years between India winning the World Cup was 28 years, while Argentina too won a major tournament after the same gap. Argentina defeated their arch-rivals Brazil in order to get the win. They won the final 1-0, with a single goal scored by Angel Di Maria.

Tendulkar had some words for the Brazilian team as well. The runners-up had star players like Neymar Jr., who was seen shedding some tears after the match. “The pain of losing a final is understandable. But this is just a bend in the road, not end of the road for @neymarjr & @CBF_Futebol. They’ll bounce back stronger and do themselves proud,” Tendulkar wrote.

The match was played at the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro. With this defeat, Brazil’s record of being unbeaten in home matches is broken, a record that stretched for more than 2,500 days.

In 2014, Argentina lost the final against Germany in the FIFA World Cup, a tournament that was hosted in Brazil. That day, Messi was seen with tearful eyes, and even after winning the Copa America, similar scenes were seen. It seems that Sachin Tendulkar who had to wait a long time to have his hands on the World Cup, truly understood what Messi felt.
