Sri Lanka’s Sadeera Samarawickrama put on a brilliant display in the field on day 4 of the third Test match at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. Rohit Sharma played a picture perfect pull shot off Suranga Lakmal’ bouncer but Samarawickrama stopped it from reaching the boundary. The youngster dived full stretch standing at the deep-mid-wicket and almost took an excellent catch. Samarawickrama is a reputed customer in the Lankan domestic circuit, and he has been impressive in the field against India.
Even though he could not hold on to the catch, the crowd applauded his effort. Lankan skipper Dinesh Chandimal and even India’s Virat Kohli looked mesmerised by the outstanding effort. Rohit made most the opportunity that has been provided to him by the management and remained unbeaten on 50 as India declared on 246/5.
Sri Lankan coach unhappy
The visitors lost three wickets in the day and put on 31 runs on the board. They still need 379 runs to level the series. Lankan coach Nic Pothas wasn’t happy with the way the last few overs turned out. He felt it was a bit of a co-incidence that Lankans lost a wicket to a seamer and the light went bad and therefore spinners were introduced. Two quick wickets from the spinners and the light got worse and stumps were called.
“At the moment I am just wondering if it is a coincidence that we lose a wicket to seam bowler and then all of a sudden the light is too bad for seam bowling, and then we lose two wickets to a spinner and then all of a sudden we come off,” the Sri Lanka coach Nic Pothas said. “It is a bit of a coincidence, I would have thought.”
“It can be pretty frustrating. We are in India, playing against a very very good cricket team. Momentum is a big thing in sport. Luck plays a big part in sport. Sometimes you just want a little bit of a rub of the green.” he said.
