Former Pakistan opener and chairman of the PCB cricket committee Mohsin Khan came out in support of Pakistan opener Salman Butt. Butt, the stylish left-handed opening batsman, was banned from playing any form of cricket after his alleged involvement in a spot-fixing scandal in England in 2010 along with team-mates Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif.

Mohsin Khan voiced his support for Salman Butt who has served the punishment for the crime and is available for national team selection. Khan put forth his opinions after the 3rd T20I between Pakistan and New Zealand which the hosts won comprehensively to whitewash their opponents 3-0. The ODI series is set to get underway on Wednesday, November 7.

It’s an injustice if one of the others is allowed back

He was quoted as saying, “Salman Butt is very talented and has served his punishment. When one has been inducted in the form of Mohammad Amir then the other two should have also gotten a fair chance. Salman Butt is a very talented batsman, if the England episode didn’t happen then it looked like he would become a very good player.”

“Butt was the captain at the U-19 level and has a good cricketing sense and plays sensibly. When the committee has a meeting and this is brought up, I will support that if one is allowed then why not other? If Salman Butt is in form and is fit, then why not. If he is being punished further then it’s an injustice if one of the others is allowed back,” he further added.

The veteran, while speaking to the HUM news, was impressed by the recent performances of Pakistan team and gave credit to captain Sarfraz Ahmed for speaking to players and bringing out the best in them. He was happy with the improvement shown by the team in all the departments, especially batting after a dismal performance in the Asia Cup.

Khan also advised Fakhar Zaman to not to play shots on every ball and learn from Babar Azam, who looks to take calculated risks. He said players need to forget T20s now and need to focus on the upcoming ODI series where they would need to show some patience. Moreover, Khan asked the coaches to step up and come out with 2-3 game plans, so that if the first fails then there is a backup plan which can be implemented.
