The third edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) was a hit as most of the matches went right down to the wire and some talented players in the country also stepped up form various teams. Islamabad United were the champions this year who lifted the trophy for the second time in three years to become the most successful team of the tournament. Samit Patel played a crucial role in winning them the trophy. However, the all-rounder from England has heaped praises on Hussain Talat and Asif Ali and has termed them as ‘great talents in the country’.

Both the cricketers were the finds of the season for Pakistan and also made it to the T20I squad on the back of their consistent performances throughout the season. Interestingly, they were also handed an international debut in the same series against Windies and the duo did well which impressed all the current and former Pakistan players. Moreover, it was heartening to see the way they pounced on the opportunity and have almost sealed their place in the side for a significant period of time.

Both stood out for me

Samit Patel, while speaking to Pak Passion, felt that both the youngsters stood out during the season and showered praises on them. “In that middle order Hussain Talat and Asif Ali stood out for me and both played fearless cricket and they just went after the bowling in every match. They played to their strengths which is always beneficial,” he said while also saying that he was impressed the way they took note of all the suggestions given to them in the team meetings.

“After one match Asif was out sweeping and we had a team chat where we looked at his strengths as a batsman. I suggested that he play straight as that was his main scoring area and only play the sweep shot as a last resort. He worked out his game pretty well after that team meeting. Hussain is more of a touch player and both are great talents for Pakistan,” Patel added.
