Prithvi Shaw has been making the right noises in the last few months. The 18-year old has been scoring runs match after match at an impressive strike rate. His performances have earned him praises across the cricketing fraternity and the selectors chose to reward him with a place in the national side. Shaw was a part of the Test series in England but did not get a game there. However, he made his debut against Windies in the series opener in Rajkot.

The opener justified his selection by scoring 134 runs off just 154 deliveries. Shaw played some exquisite shots and made light work of the Windies bowling attack. The former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar took to Twitter to praise Shaw and added that he has the capability to do well in the overseas conditions as well.

He tweeted, ”From an overseas point of view. Shaw has a couple of things going for him. Strong back-foot player and plays the ball under his eyes.” There was hardly any poor shots played by Shaw as he middled the ball very well. His innings included 19 boundaries that clearly shows the temperament that the young man has.

Prithvi Shaw never looked like he was playing his first game. He played shots all around the ground and looked positive throughout his stay. He finally fell to Devendra Bishoo on 134. This innings will go a long way in instilling confidence in the young man who has got the knack of scoring big on debuts.

India dominating proceedings

India are comfortably placed at 321/3 in 79 overs with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane forging another big partnership. Earlier in the day, KL Rahul was out for a duck while Pujara got out to Sherman Lewis for a well made 86 and supported the youngster well while stitching a dominating 206-run stand with him. Team India is looking to post a big total now and then will look to torment the opposition with their spinners.
