As the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League is just 15 days away, the cricket analysts from all over the world have been engaging with the cricket fans on their respective social media handles, drawing their opinions and assumptions relating to the players of the all the eight IPL franchises. The cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar is also busy in rating the batting and bowling lineups of the teams after examining the pitches in UAE.
On Friday, the former cricketer ranked the batting line-up of all the eight franchises. As UAE has slow pitches which are convenient for the spin bowlers, Manjrekar believes that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has the best batting unit followed by KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab.
A noteworthy point here is that this time the Yellow Army will be playing without the service of their key batsman Suresh Raina who pulled out of the cash-rich league last week citing personal reasons. CSK has some of the star batsmen in their squad namely MS Dhoni, Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo, Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja.
The third in the list is Delhi Capitals and in another tweet Sanjay revealed the reason for placing KXIP before DC when a twitterati pointed out that the KXIP players are more vulnerable to spin than DC. . He wrote “Good point… but KL Rahul tilts it for me. Also competence of playing spin in Karun, Mayank, Mandeep, Sarfraz etc. and just in case Maxwell fires.”
Rajasthan Royals acquires the last spot in Sanjay Manjrekar’s list
The commentator ranked the defending champions Mumbai Indians at fourth position despite them having batsmen like Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and many others in their team.
Mumbai Indians was followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore who have top batsmen like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Aaron Finch in their team while the sixth position was acquired by the Dinesh Karthik-led Kolkata Knight Riders that is equipped with the likes of Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Tom Banton and Eoin Morgan.
Sanjay Manjrekar rated David Warner-led Sunrisers Hyderabad as the second last team in terms of their batting line-up while the last position went to Steve Smith’s Rajasthan Royals. Though Rajasthan has superstars like Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes in its squad, the duo is not very good against spin bowling.
