Young promising batsman Sarfaraz Khan became the latest player to be ruled out of the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League. The middle-order batsman suffered a leg injury during the final practice session of the RCB camp at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The injury has resulted in Sarfaraz being ruled out from the entire season of the IPL.

Sarfaraz, who has played for Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh in the domestic circuit, hit the headlines a couple of seasons ago when he struck a couple of masterly cameos as a 17 year old young player. Since then he went on to play sporadically for the RCB team in the past couple of seasons. He was a part of the starting eleven of the RCB line up at the start of the tournament last year. However, as the tournament progressed, the skipper Virat Kohli felt the need of including more agile players and Sarfaraz Khan had to sit out of the playing eleven as a result of it.

Since then, the young lad has been working hard on his fitness and was looking forward to this season. The leg injury will see him out of action and miss the tournament now. Royal Challengers Bangalore head coach Daniel Vettori confirmed the same in a recent quote. As per the quotes in Wisden India, Daniel Vettori quoted,  “His absence will be definitely felt on-field and we wish him a speedy recovery.”

The incident perspired during the fielding session when Sarfaraz was fielding at the square leg boundary. Apparently, a fielding attempt saw him fall behind the ropes. He was seen in serious pain and had to be stretchered off the field subsequently. He did come back on the field later but the announcement about his ouster was made soon after the medical results.

He is not the first RCB player to be ruled out of the tournament. Earlier, opener KL Rahul was ruled out of the entire season. They also have injury clouds over Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.
