Mumbai have named a strong squad for the quarter-final of the U23 Col. CK Nayudu Trophy at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Hardik Tamore has been named the skipper for the match against Pondicherry, scheduled to take place from February 22 to 25, 2020. The squad consists of some massive names in Yashasvi Jaiswal, Arjun Tendulkar and Sarfaraz Khan.
Jaiswal had already made the headlines in 2019 after becoming the youngest to notch a List A double century during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The left-hander then went on to bag the Player of the Series award in the 2020 U19 World Cup in South Africa. There he racked up 400 runs at an average in excess of 130 with a century against Pakistan in the semi-final of the event.
Sarfaraz shines for Mumbai
Jaiswal also has first-class experience and is deemed to have a bright future in the offing. As far as Sarfaraz is concerned, he has arguably had his most prolific domestic season thus far. In the 2019-20 edition of the Ranji Trophy, Mumbai failed to progress to the knockout stage, but Sarfaraz managed to shine. In six matches, he managed a stunning 928 runs at a gigantic average of 154.66.
He scored an unbeaten 301 against Uttar Pradesh, his former domestic side, in Mumbai and then followed it up with an unbeaten 226 against Himachal Pradesh in Dharamshala. The 22-year-old didn’t stop there and racked up a score of 177 versus Madhya Pradesh in Mumbai. He was arguably Mumbai’s standout batter in the tournament with Shams Mulani scoring 514 runs.
Coming to Arjun Tendulkar, the all-rounder made his U19 debut against Sri Lanka in 2018. But he is yet to break into the Mumbai first class team. He also didn’t play the U19 World Cup where India lost to Bangladesh in the final. He was named in Mumbai’s 15-member squad for the ‘Bapuna Cup’ last year, a tournament organized by the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA).
