Pakistan selectors picked a 16 man squad to tour England and Ireland. They picked 16 men from the group of 25 who had been called up for a camp. The selection got a lot of criticism from media, fans and former players. But the Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has come out to defend the decision of the selectors and said it is the perfect selection.

Sarfraz Ahmed discusses decisions

The Pakistan captain said that if it was up to him, he would have selected all the 25 players but it was not possible. “It’s not like I voted him (Alam) out, I would have picked all the 25 … but we had to pick the best of the best 16 players.” Ahmed said as quoted by Sportskeeda

This statement from the captain might help to take pressure off the Pakistan selectors, who have got criticism from all the corners.

The curious case of Fawad Alam

Fawad Alam has been brilliant in the domestic cricket for the past few years, but he has been constantly overlooked by the selectors. The decision to overlook him again made former players come out and question the decision. Wasim Akram came out to criticize the selectors.

While selectors got some support from Ramiz Raja, who said that flaws in Alam’s technique would have been exposed in England.  The Pakistan captain came out to play down the dispute, he praised Alam, saying that he is no flaws and he is an experienced batsman but stated that others were equally deserving too.

“People can make as many reasons to talk, but there is nothing like flaws in anyone’s batting technique,” Ahmed said. “If you look back, Fawad had played a test in 2009 and he is a seasoned player … (but) the players we selected are also equally good and have been scoring continuously as well.”

Sarfraz further added the decision was unanimous and it had the nod of captain, coach, and selectors. Pakistan is set to tour Ireland to play one-off Test, then they will play a 2 match Test series against England.
