India is grappling with the havoc created by the second wave of the coronavirus. The situation is nothing less than a medical emergency in the country as daily lakhs of people are testing positive for Covid-19. Adding to the misery, the medical resources in the country are on the verge of exhaustion and there is a dearth of basic medical facilities.

The only way of minimizing the chances of contracting the deadly virus is by taking the vaccine. From May 1, the Indian government opened the doors of vaccination for the people belonging to the age group of 18+. The cricket fraternity has also shown awareness regarding the importance of getting vaccinated as a lot of Indian players took their first dose recently.

The latest to join the list is India’s pace merchant Ishant Sharma. Ishant, along with his wife, took the first jab on May 10, Monday, and urged his fans to do the same. The veteran took to his official Twitter handle to post a selfie after he received the vaccine. In the caption, the speedster wrote, “#VaccinationDone. Thankful for this and grateful for all the essential workers. Happy to see the smooth running of the facility & management. Let’s all get vaccinated at the earliest. #GetVaccinated #CovidVaccine”

Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia took note of the post made by Ishant Sharma and lauded him for getting vaccinated. Manish also expressed his gratitude to Ishant for taking the vaccine in a government school as he reckoned that the presence of the pacer helped in encouraging the spirits of the healthcare workers.

“Thank you @ImIshant for choosing a Govt School for vaccination. School staff and healthcare workers were so encouraged to see you there,” Manish tweeted.

Ishant Sharma to return to competitive cricket in June

Ishant Sharma was last seen on the cricket field during the now-postponed 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 32-year-old played his trade for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the tournament and looked in fine form. In three matches in IPL 2021, he picked one wicket while bowling at an economy rate of 8.08.

The Delhi-born will now don the Indian colors during the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship (WTC). He has been named in the 20-member squad that will travel to England for the WTC final against New Zealand followed by the five-match Test series against England.
