India is all set to play a historic five-day Test match against Afghanistan in June later this year. The match which is slated to be hosted in Bengaluru from June 14-18 and will be the first ever Test match for the newly induced Test nation.

After being permitted to practice at the Noida Cricket ground, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a Test match at the same ground. The Indian board accepted the offer as a mark of respect towards the relationship between the two countries and boards.

However, in a recent development, it has now been known that senior BCCI officials were apparently not kept in the loop while scheduling the historic Test against Afghanistan. BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary and CEO Rahul Johri announced the fixtures on Tuesday while senior officials including acting president CK Khanna, treasurer Aniruddh Chaudhry and IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla were kept in the dark.

According to norms of the BCCI constitution, any decision with regards to venue and date of international matches is taken by tours and fixtures sub-committee. President, secretary and treasurer are ex officio members of that committee while Shukla is also a part of that panel.

BCCI officials unavailable for comments

Johri remained unavailable for any comment but an official close to secretary Choudhary said that as of now there is no requirement of taking any permission from the tours and fixtures committee. While Shukla was unavailable for comment, it can be confirmed that even he was not in the know of things.

A senior office-bearer privy to the developments was quoted as saying by TOI, “Yes, neither secretary nor treasurer was kept in the loop about the decision as one needs to call a subcommittee meeting as per protocol. The decision to play Afghanistan was taken at general body forum (SGM in December) and now the members were bypassed when date and venue are announced.
