International Cricket Council (ICC) has conducted a random dope test of Shadab Khan hours after his heroics in the 2nd T20I against Sri Lanka on Friday. The youngster smashed a six in the last over of the chase when the game looked all but lost for Pakistan. But Shadab kept his cool and delivered when it was most needed for his team sealed the three-match series. However, though the dope test is a random one, if found positive, he might be in huge trouble.

The 19-year-old leg-spinner has taken international cricket by storm and has become the vital cog in the Pakistan line-up. He is also no mug with the bat and could potentially become an all-rounder for his team. So far he has played only limited overs cricket for the major part of his career and has featured only in a solitary Test against Windies. But surely the lad has the potential in him to take Pakistan cricket forward exactly what the likes of Saqlain Mushtaq and Saeed Ajmal did.

What happened in the match?

Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in a nail-biting thriller by 2 wickets while chasing a paltry total of 124. The slow wicket and some brain fade moments led to the downfall of the batsmen which made the visitors believe that they could clinch the game. However, it was Shadab Khan who had different ideas when the team required 12 off the last over off rookie Vikum Sanjaya. First, he smashed a gigantic six off the fourth delivery of the over and snaffled a couple off the penultimate ball to seal the deal for the Men in Green.

Earlier, after losing the toss, Sri Lanka started decently and for a change the approach from the top order was different. Danushka Gunathilaka scored his maiden half-century but the run-rate was always kept in check by the bowlers. Eventually, the pressure got to them and they collapsed from 106/1 to 119/9 and could only post 124 on the board which weren’t enough on the night.
