December 4 turned out to be one of the sad days for the Indian cricket as their World Cup hero Gautam Gambhir decided to hang his boots from all the forms of the game. Though not with the immediate effect, the left-hander will walk out in the sun for one last time in Delhi’s next Ranji game against Andhra. While the farewell messages for him are pouring on social media, the Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan also didn’t miss out as he thanked his former Kolkata Knight Riders captain for his services to the country and the franchise.

Gambhir and Shah Rukh share a special camaraderie with each other as the former was a vital cog of the KKR since joining the franchise back in 2011. He won the glittering trophy in 2012 and 2014 under his leadership for them and since then has been the heartthrob of Kolkata. With a heavy heart and upon his request, the franchise owners decided to release him as the veteran joined his home team Delhi Daredevils.

Unfortunately, the things didn’t work out for Gambhir with Delhi and he stepped down midway through the season and then was left out of the playing XI as well.

Thank you for the love and leadership

Shah Rukh Khan was all praise for Gautam Gambhir after the latter made his retirement decision public. The Bollywood actor thanked him for all the support while he was with the KKR and hoped for a wonderful post-retirement life for him. However, Shah Rukh also had a funny suggestion for the 37-year-old as he felt that the cricketer should smile a bit more now.

“@GautamGambhir Thank u for the love & leadership my Captain.U r a special man and may Allah always keep & happy…& u should smile a bit more,” his tweet read. The Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium will surely be filled in capacity to watch their local hero bat for one last time as many would be hoping for the Champion cricketer to bow out on a high.
