The T20 Global League is all set to kick off from the month of November and Cricket South Africa is expecting it to be a massive hit. After premier T20 leagues launched by India, West Indies, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Australia and England, South Africa becomes the latest one to join the list. While the fixtures are yet to be announced by the CSA, the opening match of the tournament is already grabbing attention on social media platforms.

The main story:

Pakistani journalist Zainab Abbas took to her official Twitter account to reveal the first match of the highly anticipated tournament. According to a creative poster shared by her, the first match will be played between the Benoni Zalmi and the Cape Town Knight Riders. Interestingly, Benoni Zalmi is owned by Javed Afridi who owns Pakistan Super League team Peshawar Zalmi while the Cape Town Knight Riders is a product of Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan who owns the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League and the Caribbean Premier League respectively.

The match is expected to be one hell of a contest and is being considered as the T20 Global League’s version of India and Pakistan. Javed Afridi has previously asked Shah Rukh Khan to hold a series of matches between the Peshawar Zalmi and the iconic Kolkata Knight Riders in a battle of the Indian Premier League and the Pakistan Super League. While that plan was not brought into reality it seems like Afridi’s dream might just come true when the T20 Global League gets underway in November.

The Cape Town Knight Riders will be captained by left-handed batsman JP Duminy while the Benoni Zalmi will be led by another South African left hander in the form of Quin De Kock. It is expected to be a thrilling contest with the player draft scheduled to take place soon.
