As cricketing ties between India and Pakistan continue to worsen due to ever tumultuous political relationships between the two countries, instances of camaraderie between the players never fail to provide us with some joy. Former Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi recently posted a heartwarming tweet, thanking the current Indian skipper, Virat Kohli for his benevolent gesture. Kohli had donated his autographed bat to a charity auction for Afridi’s foundation.

A non-profit organisation founded by Afridi back in 2014, the Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) is committed to providing healthcare, education and sports facilities in Pakistan and in other nations throughout the world. Additionally, the foundation and Afridi, himself is the ambassador of Polio campaigns in Pakistan. The foundation has initiated numerous welfare projects like hospitals, water wells and hand pump constructions, schools as well as student scholarships all over Pakistan.

Afridi tweets to thank Virat

Virat Kohli had recently donated a signed bat of his to the Shahid Afridi Foundation, in order to be put up for a charity auction. Afridi was quick to respond to this gesture and tweeted a picture of the bat, along with a caption that read, “Thank you @imVkohli for your kind gesture in support of @SAFoundationN. Friends & supporters like you ensure #HopeNotOut for everyone.” The motto of the Pakistani cricketer’s foundation is “Hope – Not Out!”

Virat Kohli’s jersey had previously been auctioned for 4300 Euros

This is not Kohli’s first association with “Boom Boom” Afridi’s charity foundation. Previously, the entire Indian team had signed a jersey belonging to the skipper and presented it to Afridi on his retirement. The shirt also bore a message from Kohli, saying, “To Shahid Bhai, best wishes, always a pleasure playing against you.”

This jersey was recently auctioned on Monday in the United Kingdom, where a dinner was organised by the Foundation, and the founder, himself was present during the auction. The winning bid for the jersey was 4300 Euros and the amount will be donated to the SAF.
