In the ongoing Pakistan Super League draft, Shahid Afridi has been roped in by the Sixth team. The all-rounder was earlier a part of Karachi Kings in the previous edition. ‘Boom boom’ as he’s known in the cricketing circles wasn’t retained by his former franchise and hence was a part of the platinum category in the players’ draft.

He will be sharing the dressing room with his former Pakistani teammates Shoaib Malik, Mohammed Irfan and Junaid Khan. The Pakistan Cricket Board had earlier terminated the franchise contract of Multan Sultan on account of non-payment of dues. The team will continue to exist and in case the PCB doesn’t find a new owner will be under its wing and will be called The Sixth team.

What makes Afridi a quality pick for the Sixth team

The veteran is quite a valuable addition to the side. He is capable of going all bonkers with the bat and his fantastic strike rate of 155.3 is a sublime proof of the same. The all-rounder also boasts of a total of 307 wickets in T20s. While he retired from international cricket this year representing the World XI, Afridi can still be a threat for the opposition in both departments.

Last year during the Natwest T20 Blast, the swashbuckling batsman scored a 42-ball ton representing Hampshire. It was his first ever century in T20 cricket. Considered as a role model in his country, Afridi is one of the most famous cricketers and the former Pakistan skipper has often managed to stay in news otherwise too, owing to various controversies.

A total of 371 foreign players and 311 Pakistani players are going to feature in the PSL 2019 players draft. The Sixth Team also acquired Steve Smith for the fourth season of the tournament. This will be his first ever PSL season.
