India’s neighboring country Nepal has been making rapid strides in the game of cricket and without a doubt country’s leg-spinner, Sandeep Lamichhane is their first and biggest global superstar. Lamichhane made his big awaited debut in Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2018 for then Delhi Daredevils.

Lamichhane has featured in almost all the biggest T20 leagues like the Big Bash League, Caribbean Premier League, and Pakistan Super League. The 18-year-old will turn out for the newly formed Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL 2019 and recently, he revealed the influence of his mentor Shane Warne on his bowling.

Lamichhane reveals that he admired and idolized Shane Warne the most

Australia’s spin legend Shane Warne was the one that has helped Lamichhane become a formidable force in world cricket today. “I have always admired and idolized Shane Warne the most, and fortunately for me, IPL has given me the chance to meet him. I met him last season where he gave me certain tips to improve my bowling, which also gave me a huge boost in my career. However, I believe, the most important advice that he gave me was to make sure that I bowl with a big and brave heart,” Lamichhane was quoted saying by Times of India (TOI).

The Nepalese legspinner is excited to play for the Delhi Capitals and recently participated in the second practice match of the franchise. The Young Turk performed very admirably for the Melbourne Stars in the recently concluded Big Bash League.

He talked about the lack of competitive cricket when he gets back home and felt that playing in such leagues is the best experience. “It is sometimes a struggle to not be playing competitive international cricket or not playing at all when I go back home. But whenever I get the opportunity to play in such leagues, I like to keep things simple and I know that I have to work hard because I don’t get these facilities in Nepal. So, whenever I have the chance to play here in IPL and in other leagues, I only focus on performing to the best of my abilities,” Lamichhane was quoted saying.

“Last year was a very special year for me as I got the chance to play in the biggest cricket league in the world. IPL 2018 will always be a special memory for me in my career, and I believe that it is the perfect platform for players like me who come from the non-Test playing nations,” Lamichhane shared his experience of playing in IPL for the first time.
