Shane Warne picks his choice between Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli

It seems as though Virat Kohli is favored ahead of Sachin Tendulkar, as far as Shane Warne is concerned at least.

Mentor of the Rajasthan Royals, former Australian spin wizard Shane Warne, after working with several Indian cricketers every year during the tournament, has said that India is one of the toughest teams to beat in world cricket today. Warne feels that India has several quality options in their fast-bowling department now, unlike earlier when they struggled on bouncy Australian pitches.

Virat Kohli a better chaser than Tendulkar

He was also of special praise for Indian captain Virat Kohli, who he thinks is a far better batsman than Sachin Tendulkar when it comes to chasing scores. Warne’s battles with Tendulkar were a treat to watch in their prime days, but the spin legend believes that Kohli is still a better performer when it comes to playing intense situations and chasing big scores.

“I think the way Virat plays and you look at his numbers and it’s uncanny how many times he has got hundreds in ODI cricket chasing totals down. I don’t think anyone, not even Sachin could do what Virat’s done. We know Sachin and Brian Lara were the two best players of all time in our generation.

But Virat and AB de Villiers; it’s very difficult to separate those guys. Virat is as good as anyone that I have seen plays the game. Wonderful, terrific player, I love his energy and passion. I am sure when he finishes in ten years or so he will be spoken about in the same breath as Sachin,” Warne was quoted as saying by India Today.

Over the last two years, Virat Kohli has been in sensational form, scoring runs at his own will against every opposition. His captaincy, it has been argued, needs improvement but the pressure of captaincy has not affected the batsman’s batting. In IPL particularly, Kohli’s poor captaincy has come under the scanner, but his batting, nevertheless, has been great. RCB are yet to win an IPL trophy, and this season too, their playoff chances are next to none.
