Shane Warne ready to take the coaching responsibilities of the Australian team

Recently the current Australian coach Darren Lehmann announced that he will be calling it a day from his coaching duties following the 2019 World Cup and the Ashes 2019. After this news, many people associated with the game started thinking about the names who can be the right successor for Lehmann.

The biggest outcome of this is of former Aussie spin legend Shane Warne who is a well-equipped person to handle the coaching responsibilities of the Australian national team. Warne has also revealed that he is open to become the next coach of his team if his former teammate Lehman feels the need to.

The former leg-spinner has been an absolute match-winner and a consistent wicket-taking bowler for his country over the years. He has represented Australia in 145 Tests and 194 ODIs in which he picked up a tally of 708 and 293 wickets respectively. He is also regarded as one of leading bowlers to have ever played the game of cricket.

I am always open to coaching

Warne has spoken his mind on taking over as the head coach of the national team after the retirement of present coach Lehman. He mentioned the fact that the leggie has always been open to any type of coaching opportunities and it is always very special to coach the Australian team. Warne said that everything depends on the time to come but he feels interested to take the job.

“I’ve always been open to (coaching) any country, but obviously I would love to coach Australia – not coach Australia but be part of the Australian set-up if they needed it. We’ve got so many good coaches around, so many good batting coaches, bowling coaches and people on offer. So, if the opportunity ever arose yeah, look, maybe interested, for sure. It just all depends on the time,” he said in a conversation with Wide World of Sports as quoted by News 18.

The 48-year old also said that if Lehman asks him to have a go at the big position, he would definitely try it. The former Aussie cricketer feels that his teammate has done a wonderful job of guiding the team in his entire leading period.

“If Boof (Lehmann) has had enough, maybe he’ll say ‘Do you want to have a go’, I’ll have a crack,” Warne added.
