Team India is all set to embark on a long tour of England in which they are scheduled 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs following by 5-match Test series. The selection committee led by MSK Prasad recently announced the limited-overs squads and included Ambati Rayudu in the ODI side who has set the stage on fire in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. But many were left perplexed about the shocking exclusion of Ajinkya Rahane. However, Shane Warne believes that he will return in the coloured jersey in both the formats for India soon.
Currently, Warne is the mentor of Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL and Rahane is the leader of the same team. Both have gelled well together over the last month which has worked wonders for the team. But even the Australian great was also left surprised after Rahane was left out of the ODI squad. He had batted well on South Africa tour and the skipper Virat Kohli had also backed him to continue at number 4 for the World Cup in England next year.
He is a quality player
Shane Warne reckoned the Ajinkya Rahane is a class player and he deserved more chances in the team before being axed from the team. he also went on to say that the skipper of the Royals was disappointed after losing his place in the side and backed him to make a stunning comeback ahead of the World Cup next year. “I think he (Rahane) is obviously disappointed. But Rahane is a quality player, he is a quality act. We know he has the class,” he was quoted as saying by Times of India.
The mentor of the Royals also felt that the 29-year-old will lead the Test side well against Afghanistan having done it before during the series against the Aussies. “He will be captaining the Test side against Afghanistan. Rahane is a wanted player and will be back. He will be playing ODIs and T20Is soon,” Warne added.
