Australian spin wizard Shane Warne made good on his Champions Trophy bet with former India captain and rival Sourav Ganguly during the match between India-Bangladesh. Shane Warne did as promised and wore the playing shirt of rivals England. Warne said he was “in a world of hurt” after donning the England jersey. He had betted with India’s Sourav Ganguly as the two were commentating on the England v Australia group match at Edgbaston.

Even before the tournament began, Warne had shown confidence in his team and said that they would be one of the two finalists of the tournament. But rain, much like in 2013, spoiled Australia’s chances in the tournament before they were eventually knocked out by England in a must-win game. This had resulted in a bet in which the losing team of the Group A game would wear the jersey of the team they did not support.

That meant Warne would have to wear an England jersey, and Ganguly Australia’s. So when a Ben Stokes century lead England to eliminate Steve Smith’s and men from the tournament with one defeat and two no results from their three Group A matches, the spin wizard was quick to stump up. He wore the England shirt for the second semi-final between India and Bangladesh at Edgbaston today

A world of hurt!

“I’m in a world of hurt wearing this shirt right now, but a bets a bet so on with the England shirt!” Warne wrote on his Twitter.

Before this, he had also tweeted to Ganguly saying, “Warne then sent out another tweet saying that he will soon share a picture of him wearing a Three Lions jersey. It read: “.@SGanguly99 Trying to get an England ODI shirt sent to me so I can wear it in honour of our bet. Will tweet a picture asap !  #CT17”
