Chennai Super Kings (CSK) managed to qualify for their eighth final in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The MS Dhoni-captained unit defeated the Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets in Visakhapatnam courtesy of half-centuries off Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis’ blades. However, it was the latter, who managed to bag the Player of the Match award for his knock of 50 off 39 deliveries.
Watson also contributed with a quickfire 32-ball 50 and their partnership of 81 off 62 deliveries made the game a completely one-sided affair. The victory in the Qualifier 2 meant that the Super Kings are now scheduled to lock horns with the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Final on Sunday, May 12 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
We have a lot of confidence as a team, Faf du Plessis
After the match-winning knock, Faf mentioned how the duo approached the run chase. He also said that Watson thanked him for scoring quickly at the beginning of the CSK innings. Watson didn’t have enough runs under his belt prior to the must-win contest.
He was batting at a strike-rate of around 50 at the start of his knock, put pressed the accelerator as he got the measure of the conditions and the Capitals’ bowling attack. Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis is also hopeful that they’ll give CSK a good start even in the final versus Mumbai.
“We spoke about it before the game – didn’t have the best run in the last 5-6 games. We have a lot of confidence as a team to win a lot of big games — so we draw confidence from that. We also know the strength of ours is getting those partnerships — even if we go 3-4 overs without runs, we have a great lower and middle order to bring us back.

“Watto (Watson) thanked me already for scoring quickly at the beginning before he got set. Hopefully, we can both get them off the meat in the final right from the word go,” he added.
