The ongoing Test series between England and West Indies is getting intense with every session that is passing by. Prior to the series, little did the cricket world know that the series would be so evenly contested. The Windies players have risen to the occasion big time. The visiting players have been impressing big time.
Pace bowler Shannon Gabriel is the latest entrant among such players. During the second day’s play of the third and the final Test, Shannon Gabriel managed to get through the defenses of English all-rounder Ben Stokes twice in the space of three deliveries. This certainly speaks volumes about the talent of the big built paceman.
The action perspired in the 39th over of the English innings. Gabriel bowled a full length delivery that swung in big time to get through the bat and pad gap of Ben Stokes. Stokes had to make the long walk back but was asked by the on-field umpire to stay back. The umpire went upstairs to check if Shannon Gabriel has overstepped.
The Windies team was already celebrating since they believed that they had the big fish in the net. However, the replays suggested that Gabriel had indeed overstepped on the occasion. The umpire called the batsman back and Stokes lived another day. But the happiness for the English all-rounder lasted just 2 more deliveries.
Gabriel, with all the rigor in his heart, ran in hard to bowl again. And this time around, he had the last laugh. It was almost an identical delivery that went through the gates yet again. This one kept just a tad low and Stokes had no clue about it. He had to make the long walk back to the pavilion after having batted well for his 60. The track has not been batting friendly at all.
Earlier in the game, West Indies had bundled out for a paltry 123 in their first innings. The English team could only score 194 in their response. Hence, the innings that Stokes played was certainly a key one. But the Gabriel did win the hearts for his outstanding delivery.
