Left-handed swashbuckling batsman Sharjeel Khan is all set to make his comeback to active cricket after half of his five-year ban was suspended by the anti-corruption tribunal of the Pakistan Cricket Board. The Anti-Tribunal unit, which found the left-hander guilty of breaching five clauses of the PCB’s anti-corruption code, said half of his five-year ban would remain suspended, paving the way for his early comeback.
The left-hander has played 25 One-day Internationals, 15 T20Is and a solitary Test for the national side before his career came to an abrupt halt following his ban from all forms of the game for five years on 30th August 2017. The same was for his role in the spot-fixing scandal that marred the second edition of the Pakistan Super League.
The southpaw, while playing for the Islamabad United franchise was found guilty by the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Tribunal along with fellow players like Khalid Latif, Muhammad Irfan, Nasir Jamshed, Muhammad Nawaz and Shahzaib Hasan, all of whom are still serving ban.
Every franchise will look for Sharjeel in PSL draft- Latif & Akhtar
With Sharjeel set to feature in the latest Pakistan Super League draft, former cricketers Shoaib Akhtar and Rashid Latif feel that the tainted left-hander will be one of the hottest properties in the PSL draft.
Speaking on Akhtar’s official Youtube channel, the duo reckoned that every franchise in the PSL will be looking to get the swashbuckling southpaw. “Sharjeel will be one of the hot properties in the upcoming PSL draft and every franchise will be looking to get him.He is a strong player and if he is allowed to play by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), then there should no argument against his return.” Latif was quoted as saying.
“Sharjeel recently appeared in a written test conducted by PCB’s Anti-Corruption unit and passed it successfully. He has now been told to travel to Bahawalpur, Sheikhupura and Karachi where he will give lectures to members of the junior teams taking part in the domestic youth events. In all probability, Sharjeel should be cleared to also feature in the players draft for the PSL,” a source mentioned.
