The former India cricketer Virender Sehwag turned 43 on Wednesday, October 20. As the veteran celebrated his special day, wishes poured on from all around the cricketing fraternity. The latest to join the list is former South African pacer Dale Steyn.

The former Proteas bowler took it to his official Twitter account to wish Sehwag on his birthday. He came up with a rather innovative way to do so by mentioning the Indian batter’s signature shot in a witty manner. He tweeted: “My sharpest knife back home is nicknamed Viru, cuts anything! Happy birthday, pal! Have a great one 👊@virendersehwag.”

Sehwag graced the 22 yards being second to none. With his fearless approach to batting and his attacking gameplay, the batter dominated the toughest of the bowling units. Termed as the ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’, he changed the dynamics of cricket with his effortless shots. He had troubled the oppositions with his uppercut that went on to become one of his trademark shots.

The legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar has stitched in a lot of memorable partnerships with Sehwag. Opening the innings for India, both of them had amassed huge runs for the team. Tendulkar also took it to his official Twitter account to wish his batting partner on his birthday. “On the field or off the field, entertainment and laughs never stop when you have Viru around. Happy birthday opening partner!,” the tweet read.

Sehwag scored 8,586 runs from 104 Tests at a splendid average of 49.34. Whereas on the other hand, he has chipped in 8273 runs from 251 ODIs. He has also been a part of two World Cup-winning teams. He featured in the MS Dhoni-led side that won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007 and was also one of the pivotal players of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad.

He is also the only Indian cricketer to have scored a triple century twice. His first triple ton came against Pakistan in Multan Test, 2004 when the batter scored 309 runs. Later he registered yet another triple century, scoring 319 runs off 304 balls against South Africa in 2008.
