The veteran Indian politician Shashi Tharoor took to Twitter to praise the Bangladesh cricket team skipper Mashrafe Mortaza.

Bangladesh reached the semi-final of the ICC tournament for the first time in the history. They rode their luck with some results going their way and rain bringing them a point against the Aussies. Despite the push from external facts Bangladesh, must get credit for showing steel in tough situations.

They seemed dead and buried after losing early wickets Vs New Zealand but then Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah showed enough steel to make a comeback and reach the semis. They are getting praises from all quarters including politicians like Shashi Tharoor.

Shashi Tharoor praises Bangladesh captain

Indian Member of Parliament from Kerala, Shashi Tharoor took to Twitter to praise the Bangladesh cricket team skipper Mashrafe Mortaza.

In a tweet posted hours before the ICC Champions Trophy final match between India and Pakistan, Shashi Tharoor tweeted “A brilliantly sane perspective on cricket from Bangladesh’s philosopher-captain Mashrafe @IamMortaza. Applaud the real heroes, enjoy the game.”

Tharoor seemed impressed by one of Mortaza’s quotes in which he said that labours, farmers, are the real stars, and not just the cricketers.

Shashi Tharoor added the photo of this Mashrafe’s quote “The labourers are the stars, they build the country. What have we built using cricket? Does paddy grow on the cricket field? Those who make courtyards using bricks, make things at factories, grow crops in the fields- they are the stars.”

This tweet from the veteran politician got a great response on Twitter with the tweet getting retweeted 350 times in the first 6 hours.

Way ahead for Bangladesh cricket

Bangladesh cricket team returned home on Saturday following their month and a half long tour of Ireland and England.

The Tigers had contested in the tri-series in Ireland featuring Ireland and New Zealand at the start of the tour, before taking part in the Champions Trophy. The preparation reaped benefits for them, where they reached semifinals for the first time.

Mortaza said that this successful run in the tournament will give them confidence and put them in good stead ahead of the 2019 World Cup. If Bangladesh continues to play like they are playing, they would continue to win fans like they won the heart of Shashi Tharoor.
