Sri Lanka completed a successful tour of Pakistan where they ended up on a winning note despite losing the ODI series. They managed to win the T20I series 3-0 despite not having their first-choice players on this tour due to them refusing to tour keeping the security concerns in mind. Sri Lanka whitewashed Pakistan 3-0 in the T20I series in their own backyard to leave for their home in joy.
While Lahiru Thirimanne led the team in ODIs, Dasun Shanaka was the one to lead the Islanders in the shortest format and proved to be very successful with many unknown quantities coming through with amazing performances. Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Wanindu Hasaranga, Oshada Fernando and Shehan Jayasuriya are some of the names who have given the Sri Lankan board hope that they are on the right path in preparation for T20 World Cup next year.
Sri Lanka board was given multiple assurances about the security by Pakistani board and government and were accosted with a full military convoy. They were also given a head of state like protection and the team and SLC were thankful for the same. The success of this series going without any incident might give hope to Pakistan that other teams might also send their teams to their country and help revive cricket in front of the home audience.
Shehan Jayasuriya thanks Pakistan for security and love the SL team received
Shehan Jayasuriya was one of the young guns who came good for the Islanders, scoring an important 34 in the third and final T20I. He took the opportunities he got and managed to look good in the absence of many first-choice players in the team. He also took time to thank Pakistan for being amazing hosts to the Sri Lankans and wore a replica of Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup jersey and shared a selfie on his Twitter sending out a message thanking the country for hospitality, security, safe environment and support they received during their stay.
He also hoped that other teams took a cue from Sri Lanka and follow them in visiting Pakistan to play more and more cricket and help the game flourish once again. Jayasuriya messaged, “Thank you #Pakistan … for the hospitality, safe environment, tight security, and support. Hope to come back soon and hope other countries will follow us as well. @TheRealPCB #SLvPAK #PAKvSL “
