Shikhar Dhawan is a man who has been associated with the best comebacks, and he has extended his reach of impressive performances to the Test arena too, after the Sri Lanka series. He stamped his authority in the Champions Trophy, becoming the leading run-scorer of the tournament this year as well. His comeback in Tests was possible because of Murali Vijay’s absence from the squad due to an injury.

Dhawan started the Test series on a high with 190 runs in the first innings, making it his career best Test score and ended on a high in the final Test as well, becoming the highest run-scorer in the third Test at Pallekele with a sublime 119, received the Man of the Series award for his consistent run with the bat, scoring two centuries in total in the three matches. He compiled a total of 358 runs including two centuries in this series at an average of 89.50 in three matches.

He moved up ten places to reach the 28th spot in the latest ICC rankings, which is also his career best. Whether he will still be in the squad after Vijay’s return is unlikely, but the good times for Dhawan are back. Today, he took to Twitter to thank his followers for reaching the milestone of 1 million followers.

He posted a message that read, “Thank u fr makin it a 1 million family on twitter. It’s my promise to keep wrkng hard and bring laurels to my country #1millionfamily”

Dhawan’s message

The Virat Kohli-led Indian team won the Test series 3-0 to mark their second ever Test series win in Sri Lanka and their first ever whitewash overseas. They are now scheduled to begin their ODI series from Sunday, with Dhawan being the natural preference for the opening slot along with Rohit Sharma. The openers dilemma seems to have gotten clearer temporarily, in ODIs at least, because KL Rahul has been assigned the role of the No. 4 batsman.
