Mithali Raj is arguably one of the greatest cricketers India has ever produced. There have been very few instances when she has let her teams and her supporters down. She has a responsible head on her shoulders and is a dependable batsman in the Indian batting lineup. The 36-year-old is currently in New Zealand where the women’s team won the three-match ODI series.
Raj didn’t get an opportunity to bat in the first game as the openers took India to victory at the McLean Park in Napier. However, she played a patient knock of 63 at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui and helped her team chase down 162. In the third match at the Seddon Park in Hamilton, she got out cheaply and was dismissed by off-break bowler Leigh Kasperek.
Mithali Raj- A legendary cricketer
Back in 2017, she also became the leading run-scorer in women’s ODI cricket, surpassing Charlotte Edwards, the former English cricketer. In the last match against the White Ferns, she became the first women to play 200 matches in the ODI format. She’s also the fastest cricketer to 2000 T20I runs, surpassing the talented Virat Kohli, who achieved the milestone in 56 innings.
She is 36 and boasts of nearly 10,000 runs, combining all the formats. Moreover, the Jodhpur-born boasts of eight centuries and 73 half-centuries. Quite expectantly, she has fans from every nook and corner of the country. The experienced campaigner also has a young supporter in Zoravar Dhawan, the son of Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and Ayesha Dhawan.
Ayesha uploaded an adorable picture where Mithali was seen hugging Zoravar, who seemed to have loved the pampering. Ayesha captioned the picture and wrote, “@mithaliraj has a little fan #zoraverdhawan! One of my favourite pics and we always supporting the Women’s Indian Cricket Team!!!!! #lovethispic#womenscricket #fan,”
