The 2020 Indian Premier League Auction was expected to rake in huge moolah for a plethora of cricketers from all over the world. And, it turned out that way. Australia’s fast bowling spearhead Pat Cummins set the Moneyball rolling as he became the most expensive overseas bid in the history of the cash-rich league when he was racked up for a colossal Rs 15.5 Crore.

Apart from Pat Cummins, another player who was expected to endue bidding wars was tearaway West Indian left-handed batsmen Shimron Hetmyer. And, that is exactly what happened. The southpaw-for the second year in a row- has become a millionaire after Delhi Capitals eventually won the bidding war at Rs 7.75 Crore.

And, naturally, the southpaw was chuffed to bits after his big payday. Delhi Capitals took to Twitter where they posted a video of Hetmyer celebrating the big payday by dancing on his bed.

Capitals posted the video which they captioned as, “Us: Hi, Mr. Shimron. Welcome to DC! Can you please share a message for our fans? *1 minute later*@SHetmyer:

Shimron Hetmyer was released by RCB ahead of the auctions

Hetmyer shoots into reckoning as far as the IPL auctions are concerned courtesy his exploits against India in the ongoing Twenty20 and One-day International series. The southpaw scored a stylish ton in the first game of the three-match series in Chennai to overhaul India’s total of 287.

The southpaw was released by the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore following an abysmal 2019 season and he will be looking to turn around his IPL fortunes when he joins the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant in the Capitals’ set-up.

Apart from Hetmyer, another player on which Capitals spent a chunk of their purse was Australian swashbuckling all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who was racked up for a whopping sum of Rs 10.75 Crore.

Capitals’ head Parth Jindal explained the reasoning behind Maxwell’s selection, “Maxwell was very much part of our plans… but when he went out of our budget, we went for Hetmyer. We have plenty of batting options. Which is great depending on form… Ricky has enough to choose from.”
