Shivam Mavi was a part of India’s recent Under-19 World Cup winning squad in New Zealand. He partnered Kamlesh Nagarkoti and grabbed eyeballs by cranking a significant amount of pace with the leather. To multiply his joy, Mavi has also been rewarded with a lucrative deal in the Indian Premier League when he was snapped by the Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 3 crores in the auction.

After a successful start to his career, Mavi has set his eyes on a berth in the Indian national squad. The pacer recently spoke about his ambitions in a recent interaction with the media. “IPL will be a good challenge because now people will be expecting more since I bowled well in the U-19 World Cup. But my ultimate target is to play at the top level and represent India” Mavi was quoted as saying by mid-day.

IPL- A crucial event for Mavi

The IPL has been a stepping stone for several cricketers across the globe. Many big names in world cricket have made a name for themselves after playing the IPL. Quite expectantly, the fast-bowler also considers the league as a platform to stake a claim in the Indian team. “I know if I perform well on this stage [IPL], it will help me get to the next level. Selectors watch IPL, so I will try my best,” Mavi said

Apart from that, he also highlighted the significance of handling pressure and going through a learning curve. “I’ve observed that if I prepare well, I am able to perform without any pressure. It worked for our team during the U-19 World Cup too. To reach the next level, a player needs to go through a good learning process than just hard work. Knowing how to bowl to a particular batsman or which ball should be avoided makes a big difference. The quicker you learn, the better the results.” he iterated.
