The 1st T20I match between India and New Zealand at Ferozshah Kotla was highly eventful one to say the least. The game saw Delhi stalwart Virender Sehwag inaugurating Gate number 2, which has been named after him in order to commemorate his achievement for the DDCA.

The game also saw Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma forging a record partnership of 158, which is the highest for India in T20Is. Virat Kohli did not disappoint his home crowd either as he smacked a gigantic six which reached the top of the stadium.

MS Dhoni also did his bit in providing entertainment as he clobbered the first ball he faced for a maximum, bringing joy to the spectators of the match. Hardik Pandya latched on to a blinder of a catch coming in from long off to take the catch of the season.

However, the showstopping moment came when Ashish Nehra was handed the ball in the final over of the match, which was also his final over before calling it quits from the game of cricket.

Nehra put an end to his inspirational 18-year-old career and the Indian team ensured that the old warhorse of Indian cricket was treated with a befitting farewell.

Twitter flooded in with congratulatory messages for Ashish Nehra from prominent cricketing personalities such as Kumar Sangakkara, Tom Moody and Azhar Mahmood, hailed his contribution to the game.

One such message was from the Rawalpindi Express, Shoaib Akhtar, who was full of good words for the man playing his last game of international cricket. Shoaib used words such as ‘nicest’ and ‘honest’ in his recent tweet to appreciate the career of the veteran.

“1 of the nicest guy & honest fast bowler has retired from INTL cricket .A Nehra it was pleasure playing against u #Cheers fella#,” tweeted Shoaib Akhtar.

Here’s the Tweet:

Interestingly, Nehra was one of the only three players to represent their respective sides in the modern times since making his debut during the 90s. Also, he has played under a record number of captains, from the era of Mohammad Azharuddin, Rahul Dravid, and Sourav Ganguly to the contemporary era of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
