The Pakistan cricket team seems to be going through a really tough phase. While they have always been unpredictable but in this World Cup, the performance has been really disappointing. They have only one win from their first five games. That against the big guns hosts England but their losses have been by substantial margins to derail the effort. Especially after the India game there is a lot of hue and cry, amidst that former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar expects a sea of changes in the team soon enough.

Pakistan were bowled out for a mere 105 in their opening encounter against West Indies before they eked out a 14-run win against England. The 1992 World Cup winners then failed to cash in and make the opportunities count against defending champions, Australia as they lost by 41 runs. In their fifth game, they lost to arch-rivals India for the seventh successive time in World Cups.

Pakistan currently occupy the eighth spot on the points table with just three points, placed just above Afghanistan. Hence, they need to win every game to stand a chance to finish among the top four and qualify for the semi-finals. However, the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side now has a couple of tough games against South Africa and New Zealand in the coming week.

Players who will be out of Pakistan’s side soon

The Men in Green’s poor show in this World Cup has got quite a few former cricketers talking. Not only the five games Pakistan have played in this World Cup, but they have also been struggling for a while now. Their loss to West Indies in the opening game was their 11th consecutive defeat in ODI cricket before they turned it around and caused a major upset against England.

Shoaib Akhtar has been pretty vocal in expressing his displeasure in the way Sarfaraz Ahmed and his men have shaped up in this World Cup. He has criticized Sarfaraz’s fitness and captaincy and now has gone on to say that there are multiple Pakistani cricketers who will face the axe after this World Cup.

“After the 1999 World Cup, 10 players played for next 10 years for Pakistan. In contrast, there are seven players in this World Cup squad who will be out of this side soon,” Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.
