For all those who doubted if the future of Indian cricket was in safe hands, the likes of Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw gave a staggering reply. Both these youngsters were a part of the under-19 bandwagon which lifted the junior World Cup 2018 under the incredible mentorship of the legendary Rahul Dravid. From that U19 batch, some outstanding talents like Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi and Abhishek Sharma garnered a lot of attention.

That U19 side was way above the standards when compared to the other teams and the way they won the trophy without any fuss was a testament to their brilliance. But all that is done and now, these youngsters will be fighting against each other to find a place in the Indian national side. Going by their IPL renditions and that they featured in the India A team Shaw and Gill are clearly in the radar for national selection and if things go well, they might even feature in the 30 probables squad for the World Cup 2019.

We are like brothers: Gill

But according to Shubman, there’s no rivalry between him and Prithvi despite all the hype being created on social media. Although it would be lovely to see both of them representing the nation together, the current competition might not support that scenario.

In an interview with a prominent daily newspaper, Gill said that they share a healthy relationship and they congratulate each other when they perform well. He also added that playing alongside Dinesh Karthik and watching Chris Gayle from close quarters was an experience which he will never forget.

“Not at all. We are like brothers. He does his job and I do mine. And when we do well, we congratulate each other too,” Gill told Hindustan Times.

“Post the U-19 World Cup, I have had a chance to play alongside cricketers like Dinesh Karthik and then seeing Chris Gayle and others from close quarters have been a learning curve. Now I need to deliver in the domestic tournaments to get to the next level,” he said.
