The T20 triangular series featuring India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will begin on March 6 in Colombo. Bangladesh has been going through a rough patch and has been humbled by the Lankans in the recently concluded T20I series in their home ground. After their dismal performance, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made some changes to their coaching panel.

Richard Halsall, the team’s assistant coach has been sent on a vacation. Simultaneously, Simon Helmot, the high-performance squad’s head coach, has been appointed as the batting coach of the team for the upcoming Nidahas Trophy. As per reports in bdcrictime.com, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury spoke to the media regarding the changes in the support staff.

Helmot- The interim coach

“Richard Halsall is still our assistant coach. We have taken an internal decision that Simon Helmot, the HP head coach, will be the batting coach in the Nidahas Trophy. His experience at coaching T20 teams from around the world was taken into consideration. We have also appointed Champaka Ramanayake as the bowling coach for this tournament. Chowdhury mentioned.

Shakib Al Hasan missed Bangladesh’s erstwhile Test and T20 series against Sri Lanka owing to a finger injury. However, the CEO sounded confident about the all-rounder’s return to the squad and shared an update on his injured finger. “Shakib has already left for Thailand, to get another opinion on his injury. He has appointments with two orthopedics today, and we are hoping he can travel with the team on March 4.” Chowdhury added.

The opening game will be played between India and Sri Lanka at the R.Premadasa Stadium. Sri Lanka and India have had impressive outings in their previous assignments and will be looking to replicate their form in the tri-series. Meanwhile, Bangladesh will be hoping to turn their fortunes around and string together an impressive performance.
