India’s Jayant Yadav had a great day at the office on day 2 of the 2nd Test against England. The chips were down for India after England were owning the morning session. It was debutant Yadav who contribute a handy 35 in the lower order. Later in the day, the off-spinner managed to scalp his first international wicket. After the match, Yadav spoke about how the debut has been for him till now.

It was middle-order batsman Moeen Ali, who became the first victim for Jayant Yadav. He had managed to hit the pads of Ali but umpire Dharamsena ruled it not out. Indians did not look keen on reviewing it. Albeit it was bowler Yadav and wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha, who were very sure about the dismissal. After a bit of discussion, India eventually decided to review the dismissal. As it turned out to be, the ball was hitting the stumps and umpire had to overturn his decision.

Talking about the moment, Yadav said that it was Saha who did the job of convincing Virat Kohli to go for the review. No wonder, the off-spinner humbly said that he owes his first wicket to Saha. “With the review, Wriddhiman Saha did the job of convincing the captain for me. We both thought he was out. Can’t wait to start doing this again,” quoted Jayant Yadav.

Yadav became the 286th player to have played Test cricket for India. Prior to this, he had a good experience of 42 First Class matches where he had picked 117 wickets. He is no child’s act with the bat and has a double ton in Ranji Trophy playing for Haryana. He mentioned that players like KL Rahul spoke to him on what to expect on his debut. The dressing room atmosphere helped him settle the nerves.

“This dressing room is full of people who make you comfortable. KL. Rahul, a recent debutant, told me what to expect on debut. It’s good I didn’t do anything yesterday, gave me time to process the emotions and formulate my plans,” he mentioned.

He further said that he thoroughly enjoyed the game thus far. It has always been his dream playing for India. “Thoroughly enjoyed it. Good day’s cricket. Since the time I remember, since I have started playing serious cricket, not in the streets but in an academy, I have dreamt of this day,” he quoted.
