The Gujarat Lions franchise had a wonderful last year in the Indian Premier League when they topped the table after the 14 league games. But this year in the tenth season they are not looking impressive as have managed only a solitary win in the five matches they have played.

But Gujarat Lions assistant coach Sitanshu Kotak believes that Gujarat Lions would bounce back strongly and heaped praise on cricketer Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja had an excellent series against the Australians at home but his form in the IPL has not been praiseworthy.

Sitanshu Kotak quoted the Indian Express “Jadeja is one player who can contribute in all the three departments of the game — batting, bowling, and fielding. He had an average last game but that can happen to any player in this format”

The coach expected the turnaround to happen from the next game itself and also wants his Indian players to come good this time. The Gujarat franchise takes on two times champions Kolkata Knight Riders in their next game today.

“Someone like Gayle, if he’s in full flow, he can hit any bowler. He could not play first two games as he was rested. That was a big loss for us. Him, (Suresh) Raina and Dinesh Karthik are one of the best domestic players we have. We will try to win a few games in a row then only we will have chances to qualify. Hope we start from tomorrow.”

Kotak also feels that his players need to step up their performances and show their character. He also said that bad phases are a part of this format but one needs to keep fighting in order to achieve success.

“It happens in T20. We had two-three close matches and did not get starts like last year. But last year we won six matches in the initial phase but we still needed to win our last game to qualify for the playoffs. We have to keep fighting. Sometimes you need little luck. It’s never easy to come back. That’s when you show your character”
