Smriti Mandhana-the left-handed swashbuckling opener of the Women in Blue- seems to be enjoying a little break away from the razmataz of International cricket. The Indian opener has been a cornerstone of the resurgence of the national side in the past three years and was the No.1 ranked ICC batswoman of the year until she lost the coveted spot to the White Ferns’ captain, Amy Satterthwaite.
Mandhana has been in the form of her life since the start of 2018. The stylish left-handed opener won the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Award for the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the year besides also winning the ICC Women’s One-day International player of the year for her exploits last year.
The 23-year-old, Mandhana was also named in the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year and the ICC Women’s T20I of the Year, scoring 669 runs at an average of 66.90 in 12 ODIs and 622 runs at a strike-rate of 130.67 in 25 Twenty20 Internationals during the voting period.

Mandhana was recently sidelined from the One-day series against the visiting South Africans after she suffered a toe injury. Mandhana’s injury paved way for the teenage opener Priya Punia to showcase her precocious skills. The opener scored a swashbuckling 75 in the first game against the Proteas Women, paving the way for an eventual series win.
However, the injury hasn’t hampered Smriti Mandhana’s spirits. The swashbuckling opener is making full use of the rare break from the rigors of international cricket and has been polishing her cooking skills during the break. Taking to her Instagram account, the left-handed opener shared a couple of pictures to give her fans a sneak-peak of her hidden talent. She captioned the post, “My relaxing therapy! Had a good time with my assistant chef Purnima.”
